Ravenloft - 5th Edition
Male Human Barbarian
As a child Martam was lent to the local rulers to use as a soldier in their armies. He trained as a scout because of his uncanny ability to infiltrate and gather intelligence for their forces, as well as fight his way out if necessary, as had been the case often. Rising quickly through the ranks and just as quickly being demoted for questioning orders at times, he attained the rank of Sergeant and when no longer needed in the time of war, he then decided to return home. After returning to his tribe and settling in, he became one of the village leaders, until one day his entire village was attacked and his family and neighbors turned into monsters, he battled his village and won, but ultimately lost until he was found by a wandering Cleric who helped him burn the village and somewhat get through the experience without killing himself. Martam suffers from nightmares of the past and the future and has most recently embraced his fellow Clerics faction in the Order of the Gauntlet alongside his Barbaric traditions.
ORDER OF THE GAUNTLET
Faith is the greatest weapon against evil—faith in one’s god, one’s friends, and one’s self.
Battling evil is an extraordinary task that requires extraordinary strength and bravery.
Punishing an evil act is just. Punishing an evil thought is not.
To be armed, vigilant, and ready to smite evil, enforce justice, and enact retribution. This means identifying evil threats such as secretive power groups and inherently evil creatures, watching over them, and being ready to attack the moment they misbehave. (These are always retributive strikes, never preemptive.)
THE BARON’s ARMY
Martam was conscripted at a young age when his village fell to the local Baron’s army. He fought in the name of the princes and royal families that has taken over the lands.
-I can stare down a hell hound without flinching.
-When people follow orders blindly, they embrace a kind of tyranny.
-He suffers awful visions of the past and of a coming disaster that he’ll do anything to prevent.
-Too enamored with ale, wine, and other intoxicants.
